Training & Education

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for one day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

We want our users to be able to optimally use our HPC systems. Therefore, the MPCDF provides training and educational events  for the MPG and its partners. From the basic introduction of how to use our systems to focused advanced workshops and lectures, we give our users the means to master their work on our systems.

Python for HPC Workshop

Python for HPC
  • Start: Nov 26, 2024 09:00 AM (Local Time Germany)
  • End: Nov 28, 2024 05:00 PM
  • Speaker: Members of the MPCDF Application group
  • Location: online via Zoom
  • Host: MPCDF
  • Contact: training@mpcdf.mpg.de
The Python programming language and its software ecosystem have become very popular in scientific computing for various reasons. Users not only implement prototypes for numerical experiments on small scales, but also develop parallel production codes, thereby partly replacing compiled languages such as C, C++, and Fortran. However, when following this approach it is crucial to pay special attention to performance. [more]

Parallel Computing with MATLAB

How to use MATLAB for Parallel Computing on MPCDF machines
  • Date: Dec 4, 2024
  • Time: 09:00 AM - 01:00 PM (Local Time Germany)
  • Speaker: Dr. Thomas Künzel (MathWorks Germany)
  • Location: online via Zoom
  • Host: MPCDF
  • Contact: training@mpcdf.mpg.de
This course introduces the MATLAB language constructs for parallel CPU and GPU programming and teaches best practices how to uses them. It also showcases the batch processing mechanisms of MATLAB which pave the way for scaling to cloud and clusters. [more]
